Tues - 4/1/2008 at 7:30 P.M. - My Favorite Restaurant [April Fools Outing]
Join us at one of Michael Citrak’s favorite restaurants: Jasmines Mongolian Grill, at The Commons at Federal Way (the old SeaTac Mall), 1948 S 320th St, Federal Way, WA, Phone: 253-529-9566. It’s right next to one of the main entrances facing S320th.
I love Jasmines Mongolian grills because not only does it taste great, but you can have large portions.. You assemble your food: meat, noodles, different veggies and sauce (all you can eat) into bowls, take it up to the grill, and watch them grill it up for you. Then you can have rice wraps and rice with it, soup, and ice cream for dessert. All included.
If you arrive early, there is a small Borders just east and Hallmark store inside the mall to the right next to the movie theater. The Hallmark has some fun musical cards. Always fun, maybe this time I can find two that can duet.
Location:
1948 S 320th St, Federal Way, WA, Phone: 253-529-9566
Directions:
Take I-5 to Exit 143 (South 320th) in Federal Way.
Head west.
The Commons at Federal Way is on the left.
Metro routes that service Pacific Hwy S & S 320th St: Routes 197, 179, 181, 187; See http://transit.metrokc.gov/
RSVPs should be made to club-info@nwsfs.org or to the NWSFS info hotline 360.438.0871.
RSVP by March 31, 2008.

Are We Alone? - Next show available March 31,2008: "Skeptical Sunday: You Sure About That?"
We all have something we feel certain about; the Sun will rise, the sky is blue and dried egg is hard to remove from shag carpet. You may feel strongly about these things - even swear by them; but that doesn't make them true, only that your neurochemistry is in high gear.
We'll hear how chemicals in the brain conspire to produce certainty and why even death and taxes are not foregone conclusions. Also, Sam Harris on the biology of belief... Phil Plait on vacationing brains and our Hollywood skeptic raises an eye at sure-fire, tinseltown blockbusters.
Guests:
- Phil Plait - Astronomer and keeper of the website www.badastronomy.com
- Sam Harris - Neuroscientist and author of The End of Faith
- Robert Burton - Neurologist and author of On Being Certain: Believing You Are Right Even When You're Not

Pacific Science Center - April 16, 2008, 7:30 PM Eames Theater - Beyond UFOs: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and its Astonishing Implications for Our Future by Jeffrey Bennett
"Is there really life beyond Earth? Astronomer and author Jeffrey Bennett will talk about why this question has become a hot topic of scientific research, and discuss how scientists are searching both for microbial life and extraterrestrial intelligence. Along the way, we'll also see why the possibility of life beyond Earth has profound implications to the future of our species, even in the unlikely event that we are alone in the universe. Children are welcome; those over about age 10 should be able to understand most of the talk, and younger children will still enjoy the pictures. Note: This talk is based on Dr. Bennett's new book Beyond UFOs (Princeton University Press, 2008); he is also the author of Life in the Universe, the leading college textbook in the field of astrobiology."

Are We Alone? - Presentation "Order and Chaos"
Like your stomach subjected to repeated $1.99 buffets, the universe is ever-expanding. As it grows, it inexorably becomes more chaotic. We'll hear what drives this increase in entropy, and whether there can be meaning in a universe that will ultimately become no more than a dark soup of cold particles. Also, the surprising patterns of organization around us - find out why you behave with the mathematical logic of an atom and why you can't outwit the crowds at your favorite bar. Also, happy 300th birthday to Carl Linneaus. Without him, you and your neighbors wouldn't be in the members-only club Homo sapiens. Guests:
- David Quammen - award-winning science, nature, and travel writer. His article about botanist Carl Linneaus, "A Passion for Order," appears in the June 2007 issue of National Geographic magazine
- Lawrence Krauss - physicist and cosmologist, Case Western Reserve University
- Mark Buchanan - physicist and author of The Social Atom
- Alex Bentley - anthropologist at the University of Durham, U.K.
- Virginia Trimble - professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Irvine

March 26, 2008, 7:30 PM Eames Theater - PHYSICS OF THE IMPOSSIBLE: A Scientific Exploration Into the World of Phasers, Force Fields, Teleportation, and Time Travel by Michio Kaku
"Invisibility. Teleportation. Mind reading. Psychokinesis. Time travel. Star ships. Parallel universes.... Normally, these would be dismissed by scientists as being "impossible." But so often in the past, what was once considered "impossible" eventually becomes common place. So might they also become possible in a few decades, centuries, or even millennia? Best-selling author Prof. Michio Kaku explores the fascinating physics behind these fantastic phenomena, and then argues, using the most advanced science known, that we can estimate when they might become possible, or can determine which are truly "impossible.'"
April 16, 2008, 7:30 PM Eames Theater - Beyond UFOs: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and its Astonishing Implications for Our Future by Jeffrey Bennett
