Wayward - fire closure update

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

Thank you to everyone who has sent us messages of love, support, and offers of assistance. We are so very heartened by them all! Please know that we are reading them and while we have not been able to respond individually we are very grateful for all the support.
Keep them coming! Knowing of the love and support is of great comfort to all the crew of Wayward and keeps us moving forward.

The assessment of damages is not yet completed and we still have no estimate on when we can resume operations. We remain hopeful but there is still much to be navigated and much to be assessed. We remain closed until further notice.

We are grateful for the offers of assistance in rebuilding and can report that for now we are in the capable hands of the amazing people of Service Master who are undertaking the salvage of the contents of Wayward Coffeehouse.

There may yet be a point where we call upon the Wayward community to help us reopen but for now we must treasure those offers in our hearts and wait until we know what will be needed.

We hope that you will join us in giving thanks that no one was injured in the fire and in being grateful for the amazing community that encompasses all of you as the family of Wayward Coffeehouse.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward - closed due to fire

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

As many of you may already know, a fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday morning in the unit next to Wayward Coffeehouse. Everyone is safe and we are grateful to the Seattle Fire Department for getting the fire out quickly and their empathy to our distress, to the kindness of the Seattle Police officer who was on scene with us all morning, and to the Seattle City Light crew who called in the fire.

And we are most of all grateful to all of you, because you are all far more than customers to us, you are our friends and our family. You are what brings Wayward Coffeehouse to life each day and it is your ongoing support that will be the greatest comfort to us as we start the process of recovery from this devastating event.

Thank you to Naked City Taphouse for providing much needed sanctuary from the cold throughout the afternoon for our staff and emergency responders and to all the neighboring businesses and residents who extended their sympathy, support, and offers of assistance. Your kindnesses are remembered.

As a result of the damage to the building and to our unit we are closed until further notice.
We are still assessing the full impact of the damage and do not yet have an estimate on when we can resume operations.

We have been told that it was an electrical fire in the unit next to ours and that it is not believed to be the result of arson.

We will send out updates as we learn more.

Know that we miss you all and are heartened by all the love and support we have received. There is as yet uncertainty but we are remaining positive because of the fantastic Wayward community of which you are all a part of.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery 4th Anniversary Celebration

Posted on behalf of Fantagraphics:

Mark your social calendars in indelible ink! Saturday, December 11 marks the 4th anniversary of the fabulous Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. To celebrate this auspicious occasion we're once again hosting the season's most festive party featuring amazing music, comix, art, and more!

The evening includes solo music sets by Zak Sally and Mark Pickerel. Zak was a founding member of alternative music legends Low and continues solo music endeavors while publishing great comics with Fantagraphics as well as producing exquisitely crafted small press projects on his own La Mano imprint. He will be joined by Fantagraphics friend Mark Pickerel who began his musical career with the highly acclaimed Screaming Trees and now fronts Mark Pickerel and His Praying Hands, in addition to being the proprietor of Seattle pop culture emporium Damaged Goods.

An awesome exhibition of comix art curated by Jason T. Miles and Max Clotfelter, in association with Friends of the Nib, features prominent living legends and emerging cartoonists. "Medieval Thinkers" includes original works by Peter Bagge, Bruce Bickford, D. J. Bryant, Chris Cilla, Max Clotfelter, Eleanor Davis, Kim Deitch, Heidi Estey, Kelly Froh, Justin Green, Gerald Jablonski, Megan Kelso, Jason T. Miles, Nate Neal, Bob Rini, Zak Sally, Dash Shaw, Matt Tamaru, Drew Weing, Jim Woodring, Mary Woodring, Max Woodring, Martine Workman, and Chris Wright. Toldja it was awesome.

All this plus screaming deals on comix, celebrity guests, holiday libations, demented Christmas platters spun by DJ Russ Fallout, and a few surprises makes Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery's 4th anniversary party the place to be on Saturday, December 11. See you all then.
