Greetings to all the friends of Wayward Coffeehouse. We miss you greatly and are wishing you all the magic of the season.
We have not sent out any recent updates as we had little new information to report and were waiting anxiously for word on when repairs would begin.
It is with great sadness that we must now report that we have been told that the property owners are refusing to repair the building. Although as far as we know the damage is well within the scope of repair we have no control over this decision.
But we believe in what we created with Wayward Coffeehouse and want fervently for it to continue. We have received your messages of support and encouragement and know that there is a need for Wayward Coffeehouse for the communities we embrace. We are reviewing our legal options in the matter and pursuing other means of reopening. But it is not an easy path.
Much of what still lies ahead is beyond the scope of our insurance and we are struggling to find the resources to move forward. Many friends and customers of Wayward have already made donations to the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” and we are immensely grateful for their support.
More help is needed as we face the continuing challenges of survival and reopening. If you would like to help us rise from the ashes, please go to: Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations (http://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check. We again wish to thank SBCharities for their support and assistance.

If you can't seem to find your photo please email steamcon AT hotmail DOT com for help. We will be out of town the next week, but will help you as soon as we return.
We have had many inquiries about donations to help Wayward and crew in the aftermath of the fire. We would like to announce that the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” has been established through the generous assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities.
We are doing everything we can to get Wayward Coffeehouse reopened as soon as possible but there are still many challenges to overcome. Some of those things are beyond our control and we are anxiously waiting for those issues to be resolved. Your donations will help us during the closure and with all we have to do to reopen.
One of the hardest parts of being shut down by the fire is not being able to see all of you each day. We miss you all!
We are very grateful for the support and assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities for making donations to the Wayward Phoenix Fund possible. Wayward has been the coffee haven of the Seattle Browncoats since we opened our doors over 5 years ago (a "Browncoat" is a fan of the sci-fi show Firefly and its follow-up film Serenity). As Browncoats ourselves, we are especially heartened by their ongoing support of Wayward Coffeehouse. There's a reason we're proud to be the geek coffeehouse and home to all the fandom, social, gaming, writing, charity, etc. groups that share our love of sci-fi/fantasy and all things geeky! Your support makes us mighty!
Thank you Seattle Browncoats and all of you for your encouragement and support while we rise from the ashes.

The winter weather and Thanksgiving holiday impacted our efforts to assess and navigate all that must be done to reopen. The past days we have been focusing our efforts on salvaging the vital contents of Wayward, continuing to assess the damage, and determining what is needed to reopen.
We are facing a number of challenges that greatly complicate the process of resuming operations but we continue to hope that these roadblocks can be resolved. Our hope is that we can resume providing the best coffee in the ‘Verse as soon as possible but at this time we have no ETA for reopening and regretfully remain closed.
We are immensely grateful for all the words of love and support we have received since the fire shut down Wayward. Knowing of your support and encouragement keeps us going as we navigate all that must be done to reopen.

Carolyn Palms passed away this last weekend. Carolyn was very active at NWSFS and at Norwescon for many many years running Registration then the Cloak Room. One way or other she saw most of the conventioneers and was very happy to volunteer those many years. We'll post memorial information as it becomes available.
Thank you to everyone who has sent us messages of love, support, and offers of assistance. We are so very heartened by them all! Please know that we are reading them and while we have not been able to respond individually we are very grateful for all the support. Keep them coming! Knowing of the love and support is of great comfort to all the crew of Wayward and keeps us moving forward.
The assessment of damages is not yet completed and we still have no estimate on when we can resume operations. We remain hopeful but there is still much to be navigated and much to be assessed. We remain closed until further notice.
We are grateful for the offers of assistance in rebuilding and can report that for now we are in the capable hands of the amazing people of Service Master who are undertaking the salvage of the contents of Wayward Coffeehouse.
There may yet be a point where we call upon the Wayward community to help us reopen but for now we must treasure those offers in our hearts and wait until we know what will be needed.
We hope that you will join us in giving thanks that no one was injured in the fire and in being grateful for the amazing community that encompasses all of you as the family of Wayward Coffeehouse.

As many of you may already know, a fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday morning in the unit next to Wayward Coffeehouse. Everyone is safe and we are grateful to the Seattle Fire Department for getting the fire out quickly and their empathy to our distress, to the kindness of the Seattle Police officer who was on scene with us all morning, and to the Seattle City Light crew who called in the fire.
And we are most of all grateful to all of you, because you are all far more than customers to us, you are our friends and our family. You are what brings Wayward Coffeehouse to life each day and it is your ongoing support that will be the greatest comfort to us as we start the process of recovery from this devastating event.
Thank you to Naked City Taphouse for providing much needed sanctuary from the cold throughout the afternoon for our staff and emergency responders and to all the neighboring businesses and residents who extended their sympathy, support, and offers of assistance. Your kindnesses are remembered.
As a result of the damage to the building and to our unit we are closed until further notice. We are still assessing the full impact of the damage and do not yet have an estimate on when we can resume operations.
We have been told that it was an electrical fire in the unit next to ours and that it is not believed to be the result of arson.
We will send out updates as we learn more.
Know that we miss you all and are heartened by all the love and support we have received. There is as yet uncertainty but we are remaining positive because of the fantastic Wayward community of which you are all a part of.

Noon-1:30p.m.BSG: The Birth of a Legend
Go behind the scenes of the 1978 series with tales from the original Colonial Fleet and invention of an empire. EMP|SFM curator Brooks Peck interviews Battlestar Galactica creator/producer Glen Larson and actor Richard Hatch (Apollo).
2:30p.m.- 4:00p.m.Sex, Blood and Cylons: The Re-imagination of Battlestar Galactica
In 2004, Battlestar Galactica returned to television, taking the sci-fi world by storm. EMP|SFM curator Brooks Peck leads a discussion with Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore and principal cast members Edward James Olmos, Michael Hogan, Tahmoh Penikett and Kate Vernon.
“This exhibition is the first of its kind for Battlestar Galactica,” says Brooks Peck, curator of the exhibition. “We dig deep into both the original and new series; explore the complex characters and storylines; and offer a unique presentation of props, interactive stations and educational programs that deliver the drama and adventure directly to our visitors.”
"Over its four season run on Syfy, Battlestar Galactica became an iconic series that not only entertained, but fulfilled the promise of all great science fiction. It provoked us into examining our world and ourselves through its politically-charged, socially-relevant, religious and technological themes," said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Syfy, and Co-head, Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. "It is an honor for us to partner with EMP|SFM in this one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience BSG in an up-close and personal way."
