Wayward - the road ahead

Greetings to all the friends of Wayward Coffeehouse. We miss you greatly and are wishing you all the magic of the season.

We have not sent out any recent updates as we had little new information to report and were waiting anxiously for word on when repairs would begin.

It is with great sadness that we must now report that we have been told that the property owners are refusing to repair the building. Although as far as we know the damage is well within the scope of repair we have no control over this decision.

But we believe in what we created with Wayward Coffeehouse and want fervently for it to continue. We have received your messages of support and encouragement and know that there is a need for Wayward Coffeehouse for the communities we embrace. We are reviewing our legal options in the matter and pursuing other means of reopening. But it is not an easy path.

Much of what still lies ahead is beyond the scope of our insurance and we are struggling to find the resources to move forward. Many friends and customers of Wayward have already made donations to the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” and we are immensely grateful for their support.

More help is needed as we face the continuing challenges of survival and reopening. Wayward - information on donating to Wayward Phoenix Fund

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

We have had many inquiries about donations to help Wayward and crew in the aftermath of the fire. We would like to announce that the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” has been established through the generous assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities.

If you would like to help us rise from the ashes of the fire, please go to: Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations (http://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check.

We are doing everything we can to get Wayward Coffeehouse reopened as soon as possible but there are still many challenges to overcome. Some of those things are beyond our control and we are anxiously waiting for those issues to be resolved. Your donations will help us during the closure and with all we have to do to reopen.

One of the hardest parts of being shut down by the fire is not being able to see all of you each day. We miss you all!

We are very grateful for the support and assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities for making donations to the Wayward Phoenix Fund possible. Wayward has been the coffee haven of the Seattle Browncoats since we opened our doors over 5 years ago (a "Browncoat" is a fan of the sci-fi show Firefly and its follow-up film Serenity). As Browncoats ourselves, we are especially heartened by their ongoing support of Wayward Coffeehouse. There's a reason we're proud to be the geek coffeehouse and home to all the fandom, social, gaming, writing, charity, etc. groups that share our love of sci-fi/fantasy and all things geeky! Your support makes us mighty!

UPDATE: Browncoat Event

There are actually two Browncoat events are coming up in Seattle:

Prescreening Shindig
When: Saturday, July 10, 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
Where: Wayward Coffeehouse, 8570 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103
What: Live music by local Browncoat filkers Vixy & Tony (www.vixyandtony.com) and guests. There will also be a raffle, and proceeds will go to Can't Stop the Serenity Seattle.

Can't Stop the Serenity Seattle
When: Saturday, July 17, 4:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. ("Serenity" starts at 5)
Where: Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), 2700 24th Ave. E, Seattle, WA 98112-2099
What: Screening of "Serenity" (400-seat theater), raffle, food, live music by local Browncoat filkers Vixy & Tony (www.vixyandtony.com) and Alaskan filker Marian Call (www.mariancall.com) and guests, screening of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" (400-seat theater).
*You must buy tickets (www.cstsseattle.org) by July 13 to participate in the entire event. Tickets to see "Serenity" only will be available at the door while supplies last.*

Upcoming Browncoat Event

The Seattle Browncoats are currently looking for folks to help with their next showing of Serenity for charity, mostly with set-up, ticket sales, and clean-up afterward.

Here is their itinerary for the event:

• Setup starts by 4pm
• movie @ 5 and ending around 7
• Raffle
• Food
• Music
• then Special Raffle
• Dr. Horrible around 9:30
• Cleanup

The help they're in need of are for the following jobs:

• line monitors,
• ticket sellers,
• will call,
• concessions sellers,
• food assistants,
• door monitors,
• ushers in the theater,
• and new this year -- a talent assistant who can help with the performers (keep them on schedule, etc.).
• We will also need roving raffle ticket sellers,
• and people to monitor the raffle table.
• Some of these positions will not permit you to see the movie, Dr.Horrible, or the performers, but they are essential to keep the event successful.

THE 5th Annual CTST (Can't Stop The Serenity) Event takes place on July 17th, 2010.

What's the plan: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. - the film, Serenity, starts at 5:00 p.m. - with a special event that includes a raffle, catered reception, Firefly Fashion Show and a Dr. Horrible Sing-a-long Blog presentation after the movie screening. Created by fans of the movie Serenity, Can't Stop the Serenity (CSTS) has become a worldwide benefit movement in support of Equality Now - an international organization that works for the protection and promotion of human rights for women and girls around the world.
