We’re back!

It’s been a long time and a lot of work, but
we are NOW OPEN at our new location at 65th & Roosevelt.

We are open our same hours of

All our comfy chairs, big tables, sofas and art survived the fire and are now at our new space. The sci-fi posters, Serenity banner, and geeky collectibles are here as well and finding new homes throughout. Even our stuffed frog is back overseeing the register!

We have missed all of you and hope to see you at our new location soon!

Wayward has shiny good news at last!

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffehouse:

To our beloved and much missed Wayward community,

After months of effort and exhaustive searching we have finally
secured a new location for Wayward Coffeehouse!

The new site where we can once again gather over delicious coffee is in the
Ravenna area at 65th and Roosevelt. We tried valiantly to find a suitable location in Greenwood, but although there are a few vacancies there, none met our needs for space and other criteria.

We are thrilled to finally have a new home and grateful that it is close by and we hope that many of you will still be able to come by as frequently as before. We are also excited to be able to spread the wonders of Wayward to a new neighborhood and expand the fabulous community of friends we built during our five years in Greenwood.

We hope to
reopen by late October. There is a great deal of work to be done at our new space before we can once again greet all of you with a Muad’Dib Latte and Melbourne Sandwich. But we’re gathering the crew and work is underway to transform our new space into our much missed coffee haven.

We have been so
grateful to all those who contributed to the Wayward Phoenix Fund in the weeks and months after the fire and those donations helped the staff survive as they sought interim employment and helped with our ongoing legal costs.

... but we still need your help.

If you can, please
help us get reopened by donating to the Wayward Phoenix Fund. All new donations will be used to help with the costs of rebuilding at our new home. For more information on how to donate, please go to: Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations (http://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check. We again wish to thank Seattle Browncoats Charities for their support and assistance.

We have missed you all so much and are eager to open our doors again to the wonderful community of Wayward friends.
Keep watching your inbox for updates on our rebuilding progress!

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward - overdue status report

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

Greetings to all the friends of Wayward Coffeehouse! We apologize for the lack of recent updates but have been hoping to be able to report more progress. We aim to keep flyin!

We have been focusing our efforts on finding a new location because of the refusal of the property owners to repair the building. But finding a location that will allow us to continue to provide all the unique offerings of Wayward Coffeehouse is not easy! The process is not going as quickly as we would like. As nothing is yet settled we can not reveal where we hope to be, but know that we are working hard to find a place to reopen.

As many of you have learned since the fire, there are significant legal matters which have been hampering our ability to reopen. Issues with the building which pre-date the fire were already the subject of litigation. We are aware that contrary to what we were told work has occurred at the property, however, we must pursue that issue through legal avenues. Although we have prevailed on important aspects, the legal system moves slowly and is a significant drain on our limited resources. It may be several more months before we can hope to see resolution or even additional progress with our struggle for justice on matters both pre- and post-fire.

But we believe in what we created with Wayward Coffeehouse and want fervently for it to continue.
We have received your messages of support and encouragement and know that there is a need for Wayward Coffeehouse for the communities we embrace.

We have been humbled by the many donations to the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” and are immensely grateful for the support. The funds have helped us all to survive and has helped with the mounting legal fees we face as we seek justice.
Wayward Phoenix Fund Donationshttp://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check. (
All of us from Wayward Coffeehouse miss you greatly and we continue to work toward our reopening. It will take longer than any of us would like, but we are committed to rising from the ashes and once again being the coffee haven for all of you.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward - the road ahead

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

Greetings to all the friends of Wayward Coffeehouse. We miss you greatly and are wishing you all the magic of the season.

We have not sent out any recent updates as we had little new information to report and were waiting anxiously for word on when repairs would begin.

It is with great sadness that we must now report that we have been told that
the property owners are refusing to repair the building. Although as far as we know the damage is well within the scope of repair we have no control over this decision.

But we believe in what we created with Wayward Coffeehouse and want fervently for it to continue.
We have received your messages of support and encouragement and know that there is a need for Wayward Coffeehouse for the communities we embrace. We are reviewing our legal options in the matter and pursuing other means of reopening. But it is not an easy path.

Much of what still lies ahead is beyond the scope of our insurance and we are struggling to find the resources to move forward. Many friends and customers of Wayward have already made donations to the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” and we are immensely grateful for their support.

More help is needed as we face the continuing challenges of survival and reopening.
If you would like to help us rise from the ashes, please go to: Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations (http://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check. We again wish to thank SBCharities for their support and assistance.

Wayward - information on donating to Wayward Phoenix Fund

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

We have had many inquiries about donations to help Wayward and crew in the aftermath of the fire. We would like to announce that the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” has been established through the generous assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities.

If you would like to help us rise from the ashes of the fire, please go to: Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations (http://www.sbcharities.org/?page_id=16) and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check.

We are doing everything we can to get Wayward Coffeehouse reopened as soon as possible but there are still many challenges to overcome. Some of those things are beyond our control and we are anxiously waiting for those issues to be resolved. Your donations will help us during the closure and with all we have to do to reopen.

One of the hardest parts of being shut down by the fire is not being able to see all of you each day. We miss you all!

We are very grateful for the support and assistance of Seattle Browncoats Charities for making donations to the Wayward Phoenix Fund possible. Wayward has been the coffee haven of the Seattle Browncoats since we opened our doors over 5 years ago (a "Browncoat" is a fan of the sci-fi show Firefly and its follow-up film Serenity). As Browncoats ourselves, we are especially heartened by their ongoing support of Wayward Coffeehouse. There's a reason we're proud to be the geek coffeehouse and home to all the fandom, social, gaming, writing, charity, etc. groups that share our love of sci-fi/fantasy and all things geeky! Your support makes us mighty!

Thank you Seattle Browncoats and all of you for your encouragement and support while we rise from the ashes.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward - fire closure update #2

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

The winter weather and Thanksgiving holiday impacted our efforts to assess and navigate all that must be done to reopen. The past days we have been focusing our efforts on salvaging the vital contents of Wayward, continuing to assess the damage, and determining what is needed to reopen.

We are facing a number of challenges that greatly complicate the process of resuming operations but we continue to hope that these roadblocks can be resolved. Our hope is that we can resume providing the best coffee in the ‘Verse as soon as possible but at this time we have no ETA for reopening and regretfully remain closed.

We are immensely grateful for all the words of love and support we have received since the fire shut down Wayward. Knowing of your support and encouragement keeps us going as we navigate all that must be done to reopen.

Wayward - fire closure update

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

Thank you to everyone who has sent us messages of love, support, and offers of assistance. We are so very heartened by them all! Please know that we are reading them and while we have not been able to respond individually we are very grateful for all the support.
Keep them coming! Knowing of the love and support is of great comfort to all the crew of Wayward and keeps us moving forward.

The assessment of damages is not yet completed and we still have no estimate on when we can resume operations. We remain hopeful but there is still much to be navigated and much to be assessed. We remain closed until further notice.

We are grateful for the offers of assistance in rebuilding and can report that for now we are in the capable hands of the amazing people of Service Master who are undertaking the salvage of the contents of Wayward Coffeehouse.

There may yet be a point where we call upon the Wayward community to help us reopen but for now we must treasure those offers in our hearts and wait until we know what will be needed.

We hope that you will join us in giving thanks that no one was injured in the fire and in being grateful for the amazing community that encompasses all of you as the family of Wayward Coffeehouse.

Wayward - closed due to fire

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

News from the Front Lines of Wayward Coffeehouse

As many of you may already know, a fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday morning in the unit next to Wayward Coffeehouse. Everyone is safe and we are grateful to the Seattle Fire Department for getting the fire out quickly and their empathy to our distress, to the kindness of the Seattle Police officer who was on scene with us all morning, and to the Seattle City Light crew who called in the fire.

And we are most of all grateful to all of you, because you are all far more than customers to us, you are our friends and our family. You are what brings Wayward Coffeehouse to life each day and it is your ongoing support that will be the greatest comfort to us as we start the process of recovery from this devastating event.

Thank you to Naked City Taphouse for providing much needed sanctuary from the cold throughout the afternoon for our staff and emergency responders and to all the neighboring businesses and residents who extended their sympathy, support, and offers of assistance. Your kindnesses are remembered.

As a result of the damage to the building and to our unit we are closed until further notice.
We are still assessing the full impact of the damage and do not yet have an estimate on when we can resume operations.

We have been told that it was an electrical fire in the unit next to ours and that it is not believed to be the result of arson.

We will send out updates as we learn more.

Know that we miss you all and are heartened by all the love and support we have received. There is as yet uncertainty but we are remaining positive because of the fantastic Wayward community of which you are all a part of.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward - Egg Nog is here! Horror Reading! Trick or Treating!

Posted on behalf of Wayward Coffeehouse:

Egg Nog is here! Come get your Egg Nog Latte! Or if you’re feeling like something a little different but still seasonally festive go for an Egg Nog Chai!

It’s the weekend of Samhain aka Hallowe’en aka All Hallow’s Eve (as well as a bunch of other names for describing the next few days ... ) ... and we have several events happening in and around Wayward to help celebrate the holiday variations.

Friday, October 29, is our annual “Halloween Horror Reading”
with the return of our resident local author, Michael Montoure. This year he will be joined by another local writer Jenna M. Pitman for an evening of dark tales and chilling stories. Please note: stories have adult themes and this reading event is not recommended for younger children.

And on
Saturday we will be participating in the Greenwood “Trick or Treat” festivities along with many other businesses along Greenwood. Come out with the wee ones dressed in their Halloween finery to collect sugary treats. Start the costumed trek at Wayward so you can have your own caffeine treat (how about that Egg Nog Latte or maybe a hot Apple Cider?) to keep you warm as you stroll the neighborhood. We look forward to seeing everyone out in fabulous costumes!

Everyone at Wayward sends you festive wishes for a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Walk with others, dress for the weather, make sure you’re visible, hold the wee one’s hands if you’re trick or treating in neighborhoods, and be sure to have a designated driver if you’re heading off to parties! Celebrate, have fun, and be safe!

FRIDAY, October 29 HALLOWEEN HORROR READING: Michael Montoure + Jenna M. Pitman

8 - 10 pm, no cover
This year’s theme is “Listen Closely” ... please remember the readings tonight are thriller/horror stories with adult themes and are not suitable for young children.

SATURDAY, October 30 EVENT: Greenwood Safe Trick-or-Treat

12 - 3 pm, no cover
Visit all the participating businesses (that includes Wayward!) with your children in costume for a safe trick-or-treating experience. We look forward to seeing everyone in costume!
